Offering Ragu as a Plugin

First shared in my AI club, now Frontier Table, March 20, 2026.

It feels to me that I need to get my team looking at perhaps offering up Ragu as a plugin.

Two questions come with that. Are plugins limited to Claude? And is there any chance they’re moving cross-platform, the way MCP did? Now I need to go get better informed. Some context, for anyone asking the same thing.

Claude Code plugins arrived in October as a public beta. Anthropic’s definition is spare: plugins are “a lightweight way to package and share any combination of: Slash commands, Subagents, MCP servers, Hooks.” Anyone can host a marketplace — all it takes is a git repository with a properly formatted marketplace file. So the packaging is Anthropic’s, but much of what goes inside the package needn’t be.

Two of the ingredients have already left home. MCP started as Anthropic’s protocol, and in December Anthropic donated it to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, a fund it co-founded with Block and OpenAI, by which point MCP had 97 million monthly SDK downloads and first-class support in ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor and Microsoft Copilot. Skills followed about a week later, when Anthropic released Agent Skills as an open standard that Microsoft, Cursor and others had already adopted, with OpenAI, in VentureBeat’s words, using “structurally identical architecture” in ChatGPT and Codex.

And plugins themselves? Whether the format goes cross-platform the way MCP did is something nobody can promise today.

What that tells me is where the portability lives. The MCP server and skills may be reusable across platforms. The plugin packaging still needs checking.

That’s as far as the public record takes me. The rest is getting the team to look at it.
