Use Fable to deploy GPT-5.6 Sol to do the heavy lifting. You get the right plan, and then great grunt work, at $400 a month on subscription. Lots and lots of tokens. It’s not easily bettered.
Sol is two days old. OpenAI released GPT-5.6 on Thursday in three sizes — Sol, “considered its workhorse,” with Terra and Luna below it — across ChatGPT, Codex and the API, and calls Sol its “best coding model yet.” OpenAI’s claim is that Sol is “54% more token efficient when it comes to AI coding tasks.” On the API Sol is $5 per million input tokens and $30 output.
The $400 is two flat fees: ChatGPT Pro at $200 a month and Claude’s Max 20x at $200 a month. Fable on the API is $10 in and $50 out per million, double Sol’s input rate and well above its output rate, and the price difference tells you the roles. If OpenAI’s 54% holds, the grunt work also lands on the thriftier model per task, which is the right way round. And the grunt-work side is the same subscription that ran 13.4 hours flat for me back in April on 5.5, so the stamina is proven.
One date to keep in view. Anthropic has said Fable stays included on paid Claude plans through July 12, after which it “will no longer count toward subscribers’ included weekly usage limits” and needs usage credits. The $400 figure has a clock on it, as far as the public notes go.
Two subscriptions. One result.
